Welding and Fabrication Quality
Steel structure and fabrication inspection
Structural steelwork inspected against its execution class: materials, welding, geometry, holes and bolting, surface treatment and documentation.
01What the service involves
QUALITAS TR inspects structural steel, platforms, frames, towers, skids and fabricated assemblies. For work to EN 1090-2, requirements depend on the execution class (EXC1 to EXC4) specified by the designer: traceability, welding quality, NDT extent, tolerances and documentation all scale with the class.
Inspection covers material identification and certificates, cutting and hole preparation, welding (including the welding coordination required by ISO 3834), dimensional and geometrical tolerances, trial assembly where required, surface preparation and coating or galvanizing.
02Why buyers need it
Steel structures are often manufactured by fabricators of very different capability. Structural defects, missing traceability or out of tolerance assemblies discovered at site cause expensive erection delays.
Independent inspection ensures that the execution class requirements actually reach the shop floor.
03Typical applications
- Industrial buildings and plant structures
- Platforms, walkways and stairs
- Equipment skids and base frames
- Towers, masts and supports
- Conveyor and material handling structures
- Solar mounting and energy structures
04Methodology
Execution requirements
Execution class, tolerance class, NDT extent and coating system confirmed from the design documents.
Material control
Grades, certificates and traceability marking verified.
Fabrication
Cutting, holes, fit-up and welding inspected; welder and WPS coverage checked.
Geometry
Dimensions, straightness, squareness and hole positions checked against tolerances.
Surface and dispatch
Surface preparation, coating DFT or galvanizing thickness and marking verified.
05Applicable standards and references
EN 1090-2 sets technical requirements for the execution of steel structures. Weld quality levels are referenced from ISO 5817. Corrosion protection is commonly specified under ISO 12944 for paint systems or ISO 1461 for hot-dip galvanizing.
06Deliverables
- Fabrication inspection reports
- Material traceability record
- Dimensional reports
- Coating and galvanizing inspection reports
- Dispatch release note
07Customer benefits
- Fewer site erection problems
- Execution class requirements verified
- Complete traceability
- Durable corrosion protection
- Documentation ready for CE marking files
08How QUALITAS TR supports you
We can inspect a single fabricator or coordinate inspection across several fabricators and galvanizers supplying one project.
