Automotive
ISO 26262: Road vehicles, functional safety
The automotive functional safety standard for electrical and electronic systems.
01Purpose
ISO 26262 addresses possible hazards caused by malfunctioning behaviour of safety related electrical and electronic systems in road vehicles, and defines a safety lifecycle with requirements for each phase.
02Scope
Applies to safety related systems including electrical, electronic and software components in series production road vehicles. It is mainly relevant for system, electronics and software developers.
03Main requirements
- Safety lifecycle from concept to decommissioning
- Hazard analysis and risk assessment
- Automotive Safety Integrity Levels (ASIL A to D)
- Requirements at system, hardware and software level
- Supporting processes: configuration, change, verification, documentation
- Production and operation requirements
04Typical applications and industries
Electronic control units, sensors, actuators and their suppliers. For mechanical component suppliers it is mainly relevant through production requirements and safety characteristics.
05Audit and inspection considerations
- Are safety related characteristics identified and controlled in production?
- Is change management linked to safety analysis?
06Common nonconformities
- Safety characteristics not marked in control plans
- Changes without safety impact analysis
07How QUALITAS TR can support
QUALITAS TR's role is limited to production quality aspects: verifying that safety characteristics are controlled at suppliers. We do not perform functional safety assessments.
